There is an app that you can download on PC that is called Greenshot.  IT IS FREE!

It is free and you can select where you want to capture an image.  I learned about this from a friend who has worked at Ubisoft and Riot Games.  I have found it very helpful!

I don't know why this has been resurrected after 2 years.  But you don't need to download anything.  Just use the Print Screen button on your keyboard.  That will place the entire  image into your clipboard for pasting into a new graphics document.  To limit the screen capture to your active application only, use Alt + Print Screen.

Actually, on the Mac it is Command-Shift-3 to take a picture of your whole screen as well as Command-Shift-4 to take a picture of just a selected area as noted above.

    1. On Windows I use the Print Screen key.
    2. Open Photoshop & create a new document.
    3. Hit Ctrl+V to paste contents from clipboard.
    4. Crop and resize as required.

On windows 10 you can press Win key + Prt Src and that will put the full screen shot in your Pictures>Screenshots folder.

On a PC, you can also just press "prt Sc" button to capture the entire screen, or alt-prt sc to capture an open window.

Are you on a Mac or PC?

I see that PC is addressed above.  On a Mac, simply click Command + Shift + 4 and drag over the area you wish to capture.  Macs also have a built in utility called Grab, which you should review.
