An EPS can contain both raster and vector. Saving to EPS does not make it vector. As @D Fosse said, if you need true vector, use Illusrator or another vector application.

Some tips:

  • You might have success with Image Trace in Illustrator. Be sure to use the Image Trace panel to adjust the settings and toggle open the section called "Advanced". Then Expand when finished to convert to vector. It will be a group.
  • Paths can be copied from Photoshop to Illustrator. They will be tr

You said in an earlier reply that you “vectored the design inside it” in Photoshop. What you should do next to get them into Illustrator depends on which tool mode you used to create the paths:

Did you create the vector file in Photoshop or in Illustrator? If you created it in Illustrator, which is vector at its core, then you can uncheck saving a PDF with the vector image when you save it.

What file format did you save it in?

I used photoshop and had vectored the design inside it and saved it as an EPS.

I'm not convinced Photoshop can save vector content at all, eps or not. Any testing I do here with eps, results in reopening as raster. Even reopening in Illustrator.

Paths are preserved in Photoshop, but as naked paths. Any fill, stroke etc is raster. In Illustrator all is raster.

Generally, anything involving vector should be saved out from Illustrator. Photoshop is not a vector application. The vector tools are mainly aids for selection/masking.

  • Paths can be copied from Photoshop to Illustrator. They will be transparent, so you need to give them a fill or stroke.
  • You can File > Place your image into Illustrator and create a Template layer while still in the dialog or by double-clicking the layer later. A Template layer by default is locked, dimmed, and does not print, which makes it easy to draw on top of it.

Can you show us the guidelines WIX gave you for the images? We are giving you general information and have not seen their requirements.

@jane-e

WIX take the svg vector file and the requirements for the svg vector files are:

  • The files size has to be up to 250KB or lower.
  • The svg files cannot contain embedded images.

I will try your method of using illustrator to make the photoshop file a vector.

Do you know of any video that i can follow?

Illustrator can also save to SVG. You hadn't mentioned SVG, but I wondered about that. SVG is the only format for web that supports vector.

A video for what part of Illustrator? Overview? Image Trace? Template layers? Something else?

Thank you, i had followed your steps on illustrator to create a vectored file and then saved it as svg, now when i upload to WIX it does not say that it has embedded PNG or JPEG. Thank you.

You said in an earlier reply that you “vectored the design inside it” in Photoshop. What you should do next to get them into Illustrator depends on which tool mode you used to create the paths:

If you drew the vector shapes with the tools in Shape mode, then it should have worked to use File > Save a Copy and choose either Photoshop EPS (with Include Vector Data selected) or Photoshop PDF. For me, both brought over editable vector shapes with fills and strokes preserved. However, they included duplicate paths that I would probably remove before uploading as SVG to a website like Wix.

If you drew the vector shapes with the tools in Path mode, then they won’t export or print, so they simply won’t be there when the document is opened in Illustrator. (For EPS, the Include Vector Data option won’t be available.) If this is what you ran into, then the only option you have is jane-e’s second suggestions: Copy and paste the paths from Photoshop into Illustrator.

Does the file need to be a vector file? You can rasterize your image and save it as an .eps and it should work.

And if you created the vector file in Photoshop, can you select and delete the jpg or png?

Saving a raster file as EPS does not make it vector. If I had a dime for all the stories I've heard from folks who were told to get the vector version of the logo and thought they could get the jpeg from the website and save it as EPS, I'd be rich ! 😊
