How do you enlarge an object without changing the image size ?

Hi!

I have to do product photography for work. I have to use a certain image/canvas size to fit the website upload 1500px x 1500px x 1500.

How do I enlarge the object in the photo, a purse for example, without changing the canvas size?
I tried the free transform, but it just moved around my edited layers and half the purse disappeared.
Basically I have a white background and am trying to make the purse in the center larger without having to reshoot it.

What are the dimensions of the purse photo? I'm thinking there must be an original file larger that 1500px. If you can get that, you can reduce it to fit. But you can't enlarge something without loss of quality.

Hi Katelynb1113!

You can use the transform tool to scale the photo larger withi the canvas

Use the Free Transform command to apply transformations (adobe.com)

It will potentially make the object look blurry as you will not be able to truly increase the resolution of the file by scaling - as Leslie said above.

Otherwise you will need a higher resolution file to start with or to reshoot the image.

A couple of ways I can think of. The second one's a bit safer.

1) Use the Crop Tool: assign a fixed size WxH size of 1500px x 1500px.. drag the crop tool around your purse as you desire, then hit Enter. (This method is destructive so you might want to keep a copy of the original around)

2) Create a new document 1500px x 1500px, then drag your image from the original document into the new one. Even if it is bigger than the canvas, it will all be there in the new layer so you can move it around or resize as you desire before you rasterize it.
