Hi, I need to open two different images in two different windows, I don't want to do anything fancy for now, just open them.

I opened them togheter, you can see the two files names. I dragged one by the file name to the desktop, but it shows a generic bar, not a PS window.

mojave, PS CS6, but I don't think that's the problem because I used to do it a few years ago. Thanks.

...or "Float All in Windows", which is the way Photoshop originally worked. This is what you get if you uncheck "Open As Tabs" in Preferences:

Actually uncheck "open as tabs" works by itself, correct.

Once you've opened both images you can go to Window>Arrange>Tile All Vertically

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
