How To Create Batch to Resize to Square

Explorer ,
Jun 18, 2020 Jun 18, 2020

Had someone send me a folder of images of all sorts of sizes, shapes and file types.

They need everything shrunk down to 600x600@300dpi (jpg). So, anything not sqaure in shape, will need white added to the tops/sides to make the image square.

I'm familiar with making scripts and batch running... but not something like this.

Any ideas?

A simple action can be batched to do what you want to. Step 1 Image size resample not checked. Set Print resolution to 300 DPI. Step 2 File>automate>Fit Image. Set width and height to 600 px. Step 3 Canvas size set width and height 600 px.

You need to make sure that you force Photoshop to record both  the width and height in the Canvas size step to 600px in both width and height.  You can do that by first recording  a canvas size step after the fit image step  to set width and height to 601. Then record a second canvas size step width and height  to 600.  Stop recording and delete the 601 canvas size step.   Expand the Action fully so you can verify all is recorder the way you want it to be.

Batch the action with Photoshop Batch or Image Processor.
