how to delete a file in photoshop

New Here ,
Nov 06, 2019 Nov 06, 2019

The software seems to be good...but the tech support is stupid.   Now I am either stupid ..or I dont see it... But how does someone delete a file from photoshop?  Like delete the entire project, not just undo, undo undo.

This answer does not work in the Photoshop CC interface (at least that I can find).  Can anyone explain in basic terms how to delete a file that appears on the opening sceen of Photoshop.  I don't have the 3 dots that should have a dropdown menu with "delete" anywhere to be found.  Thanks..

How do you simply . . . delete a Photoshop file? It is not clear, for such a simple function. I have PS 21 and the three dots box does not allow for a Delete function. Please help. Thank you.

Only one place I can see the Delete action on the Home Screen and involves Cloud Documents only.

Photoshop is an Image Editor and does not delete local files. You can either use Bridge CC 2022 (Free to install and use from your Creative Cloud Desktop App) or your own Windows/Mac File manager.

@defaultb9st6wpy4g0m

I've always disabled the home screen (don't want it) - but I assume if you go into preferences and set "recent files" to 0, they should be gone.

I'd strongly recommend using a proper file browser for file management instead of the home screen.

THis is truly ludicrous. If it's recent files, it should say recent files. This makes it look like files are hanging around. Some files end up in my files, and THEN I can delete. Meanwhile, everything else is hanging somewhere in space. Unacceptable for paid software.

There are no three dots to click on. I am at the homepage and unable to delete these. There's nothing that shows how to do it.

@antinet_smo @AndalusianAnne I encourage you both to read through the replies by the Community Experts in this thread - both your questions and complaints were addressed:

  • You can only "delete" cloud documents, PS will not delete local files using the software.
  • You can clear the recent files in your home screen by going to File>Open Recent>Clear Recent File List.
