Question

How to edit existing pattern to make it fit in a new pattern size?

Hi,

I have some pattern from shutterstock and I need to make it as seamless pattern to 1024*1024px size. The sizes vary a lot in shutterstock so all of them are not using the same aspect ratio which means I need edit it a bit to make it loopable, seamless tile/pattern for that size. But how do I do that without ruining the pattern and it's still seamless from every sides?

Here is an example of some pattern: Abstract Geometric Pattern Lines Rhombuses Seamless Stock Vector (Royalty Free) 573952828 - Shutterstock

Thank you!

Apply pattern  as a Layer Style by double clicking the layer in your Layers Panel.

In the Layer Styles panel, select Patten Overlay and adjust the Scale slider to fit.  Hi OK.  See screenshot.

Go back to your image.  Use Crop tool to tidy things up if needed.  Hit Enter.

Hi, some are not. I am now editing bitmap images in order to make pattern tile for 1024*1024px size with seamless feature. I need to make pattern for a game and that's why I need that size.

    Hi

When checking your image for tiling use the Offset filter  (Filter >Other>Offset) and set the offset to half the width and half the height (so 512 and 512 for a 1024 x1024 image). The edges will now be in the middle and will quickly show any tiling issues.

You can apply the same offset again to restore the image to the previous position.

If the patterns you have fill an area seamlessly you may  be able to scale them some where you just loose  a little bit of image quality.  However you can not change a seamless pattern Aspect Ratio and retain its seamless fill property.  A pattern does not need to be square to fill a  1:1 area like 1024x1024. To fill it perfectly the aspect ratio sides need be an even multiple of the other.
