How To Erase Making A Scruffy Result

Contributor ,
Oct 10, 2021 Oct 10, 2021

I am looking for a way to do a scruffy erase. I have used a displacement map on text to make it look like old paint and the result is quite good. However, I am trying to find a way to make the "paint" appear a little more ragged, or worn off, but cannot achieve this by changing the horizontal and vertical scale sliders. I have tried using several special effect brushes with the Eraser Tool, but this was unsuccessful.

Without seeing what you're working with, this is a stab in the dark.

Try changing Layer Blend mode to Dissolve and reduce Layer Fill value to 60% and Opacity to 90%.  Or adjust values as desired. See screenshot.

Good tutorial (it took me a while) -- the results were good. Thank you.
