Community Beginner ,
Jul 17, 2018 Jul 17, 2018

I sliced my images into several pieces before I print it, I output them into saved as web format, and it only supports jpg gif two formats, after output them the original quality will be lost, any methods to deal with it?

two formats

You seem to have overlooked png-24 (and others).

three formats

Technically still not correct, there is also WBMP.

And for png there are png-8 and png24, the latter one corresponds to an 8bit RGB image with transparency, so what do you mean with

after output them the original quality will be lost,

exactly ?

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post screenshots taken at View > 100% of the original and the resulting png-24.

Though that was based on my assumption that you refer to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy), did you actually refer to that feature or something else?

I mean the right output format for print since all these formats are not the optimal format for printing a picture.

As you seem set to use that output because of the slices what is your problem with png-24?

And I have asked for screenshots to illustrate the quality loss you claim.

Can we take a step back and understand what your end goal is. Slicing is for web applications, whereas you appear to be talking about printing.

It may be that you just need to add some guidelines to the master document. Crop to those guidelines and use Save as (in whatever format you choose) to create a new document for each section.

Could you please post a screenshot so we can see how complex your slicing is and how well it would lend itself to automation?

Your slices seem to simply divide the canvas horizontally and vertically at regular intervals.

If that is the case the script in the page I linked to in post 12 should be able to produce the intended result by amending the lines

var theX = 2;

var theY = 2;

to reflect the numbers you need.

Here are my free actions which will do the job of dividing image into equal 4, 16, 25 and 64 parts with each part or piece on its own layer https://www.designeasy.co/2014/02/split-image-free-photoshop-and.html

To export each piece or layer as PSD, TIFF, JPEG, PNG... use File > Export > Layers to Files.

Slicing isn't just for web applications -- it's just a way to sub-divide images, regardless of use.   For example, I'm printing out large Dungeon and Dragons maps at home on multiple pages, and taping them together to form the final piece.
