You're using the wrong brush. That's the Mixer Brush, not the regular Brush. Go to your VERTICAL toolbar and select the regular Brush.

If you do not see "Custom" in the first dropdown (labeled "Dry" in your screenshot), then you are using the default settings. Otherwise, you might consider resetting the tools or even the preferences as a last resort, but I don't believe such drastic measure is necessary.

I do not need the dry and wet options or the load and other options for that matter. I need the default option i.e. Opacity and blending mode etc.
