Question

how to rotate canvas without rotating tools and shapes

I would like to make a Horizontal selection on a rotated canvas, however, when I attempt this, it just makes a selection that is horizontal to the canvas, not the view, so I end up with a rotated selection (slanted).  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?  The same goes for tools, like shapes.  When creating a shape it orients it to the paper x and y axis, I would like to be able to switch it to be oriented to the x and y axis of the rotated dimensions (I.E. the viewing window).  Is this possible on a rotated canvas?

"Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?"

No, there isn't setting you are looking for.

not really with the tool.

But.

  • You can tell how many degrees you've rotated your canvas (Rotate View Tool)
  • Make your selection
  • Transform Selection with the negative value of your rotated view.

Not as fluid, but it'll get you there.
