I was going to urge you to give it some time, but something I suspect a lot of this forum's regulars do is forget that we don't all use Photoshop the same way. We tend to apply our own context and it is unlikely to fit other people's workflows.
I don't take photographs but still use Photoshop every day and find the CTB a real aid, but a person working their way through hundreds of photographs probably wouldn't get the same benefit from the CTB. YMMV as they say.

Yes. but if you Pin it, you can drag it to the edge of the screen and it will stay there till you need it.
How do you use Photoshop? What is your typical workflow?

I may be wrong, but mine appears to switch itself back on. It's a really really really annoying an unwanted feature.

Peter,
What version of Photoshop and operating system are you using?
I haven't seen that issue in the latest Photoshop 2024 (ps version 25.6) on either Mac or Windows.

Hi Jeff, this is actually in Illustrator as opposed to PS but I'm sure they are the same.
I've just checked that what I'm saying is correct and it is: if I uncheck the 'feature' in the main menu, then close and re-open the same docuemnt, the feature is active again. I'm not used to AI doing stupid stuff like this. I'm hoping there's a setting in preferences that permanently disables this nonsense.

Different teams work on each Adobe application, so similar features don't always work the same between
applications.
You should post in the Illustrator forum:
