I can't copy and paste in Photoshop. When I try to copy a layer with Crtl + C, nothing happens. I am on Windows 7 64 Bit.

Select the layer you want in the Layers panel.

Then go into the Source Document window and Select > All or Ctrl-A

Then Ctrl - C, open the Target Document window and Paste.

How about the menu commands? Do those work? (Select > All for selecting entire contents of a layer. Edit > Copy to copy; Edit > Paste to paste.)

Nope. Those are gray when they should be black. I can't click on them or use them.

Another way is to select your layer in Layers panel.

Select the Move tool, hold down your mouse button on the source document.

Drag it onto the tab of the target document, that window opens.

Then onto the document and release.

That would probably work, however it wouldn't work for what I am trying to do.

You're either doing something wrong or something went kablooey with your Photoshop installation.

Can you even select something on an open document?

it's a known bug. Here's another topic which covers it extensively:

It's PHOTOSHOP.  The updates are awful and nothing works efficiently....  I even called Adobe and shared screens with them.  They gave no solutions and told me to call Apple.  Apple gave no solutions and I have deadlines.  THANK YOU ADOBE.

I am simply trying to copy paste graphics from illustrator.  Also, I can't open jpegs or other photoshop files.  I have to trick photoshop by opening a file directly from photoshop.  Another problem is photoshop and indesign keep uninstalling in my CC.

What happens if you, say, drag the vector from Illustrator into Photoshop?

Can't open JPEGs or other types of documents...in Illustrator and/or Photoshop?

??? Okay, that last one is mysterious. If anything, it may be time to go what I like to call, "scorched earth," and completely uninstall all Adobe apps and use the CC Cleaner Tool to see if that clears anything up.

Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems

If that doesn't work, there may be a virus or malware infecting your system. (Rare on Macs, but it can happen.) Might want to try antivirus software. If that doesn't work? It may be time to continue the scorched earth tactics and format your system.
