When I try to open photoshop I get the error “Could not initialize photoshop because the preferences file was invalid (it has been deleted)” please help I cannot open any photoshop files or start the application

this did not work i could not find step 4.
Delete the “Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings” (or similar name) folder.(Folder name may differ depending on what version you have)

I ended up unintalling and reinstalling and i am getting the same error message

Could you try uninstalling using the Adobe app cleaner?

I tried that, uninstalled with the clean tool, reinstalled, restarted my computer same error.... any ideas?

After uninstalling and re installing and getting the same error i went back and deleted anything in library/preferences that even looked like what the mention in step 4. Especially any file that had been created recently. Then re installed and restarted again. Still same error....
This all happened after a force quit of the application if that has something to do with it?

Problem solved!!! I held command+option+shift keys pressed while launching photoshop and a box pops up and you choose the option to delete the preferences file
