Image Processor Memory Problem if Ps in the foreground

PS 24.1.1 on MacOS 12.1.

The "Image Processor" function under "scripts" does not free memory as it works. Images save and close but the converter slowly depletes all system mermory.

You can reproduce this by converting a large folder of images and watching the system memory slowly be depleted and then you will get an OS error.

I just ran a test with Image Processor, from a folder of 300 PSDs saving to jpeg in a different folder. These are all files from Nikon D810, Sony a7r III, Sony a7r V. In other words, pretty big files.

There was no memory buildup, no excessive scratch disk usage.

Here's memory at the end of the process, at the same level as it had been throughout:

...and here's a very modest 4.5 GB scratch file, also at the end of the process:

It's clear that the whole process is one by one image, one closes, the next opens. So memory is reused and the requirement doesn't rise from what's needed for one image.

This has to be MacOS specific.

Looks like it's related to the WindowServer process. The attachments show the start, two mid points and end of a batch. Photoshop goes from 4.3 GB to 8.8 GB but the WindowServer grows to 18.7 GB of memory usage.

Also, I noticed that the problem only occurs if you have Photoshop open in the foreground while running. If it's in the background the windows do not update and the memory stays manageable.

Hi, does your image processor run use an action or a script? can you share the settings used, the kind of files, maybe also please post the contents of Photoshop's Help>System Info... menu, in order to have more info about your computer.

Identical issue here (and identical reply from me). This poster showed a screenshot of the Image Processor dialog, and there weren't any actions or scripts running, just a resave to jpeg:

I am using the built-in function which is under scripts.

Also, been running for an hour in the background (othe rapps in foreground) and the memory is still fine - so at least we have a way to use it.

Also, while leaving PS in the background and processing a few hundred GB of images, the "WindowServer" process memory stayed put but the Photoshop memory did steadily grow until it crashed. It was able to run overnight though and process a considerable number of images.
