Inconsistent Saving/Updates to Synology NAS

Hello.

I have a user experiencing issues with saving/updating/deleting documents on a Synology NAS from Adobe Photoshop.

Below are the steps I have taken thus far: (Exerpt from our ticketing system)

had CUSTOMER overwrite a file saved on the NAS. File location was:
/NAS/link/to/PNGs/Cat

Verified that she has full, administrative permissions to this share.

She directly exported the change from Adobe to the NAS share. The change is not reflected, but on the NAS itself a hidden file is created: .smbdeletexxxxxxxx.4
CUSTOMER is unable to see these files from her machine.
If I rename them to something like test.psd , she is able to see them and verify they are the files she was trying to update.
When she tries to delete the test.psd from the share, the .smbdelete.4 files reappear, as do the test.psd files.

I had her remap the NAS using AFP:// . This eliminated the .sbmdelete.4 issue. She is able to delete files without those .4 files being created, however, she is still unable to overwrite existing files directly from Adobe.

From doing some research, I have discovered numerous complaints on Adobe forums about incompatibility with saving to remote shares. This has been an issue for years that Adobe has been asked to fix.

I'm going to reach out to Adobe to determine if they have a fix for this. I have narrowed it down to being an Adobe issue. CUSTOMER s able to export a file to her desktop, and then copy it to the NAS share without issue. The only time this occurs is exporting from adobe. There is also a yellow "Caution" https://image.shutterstock.com/image-vector/yellow-hazard-warning-mark-danger-450w-1183110262.jpg symbol next to her "Save" button in Adobe.

Adobe doesn't support working directly off network storage. I know its popular but sooner or later, it will break. Apparently Mojave and Synology boxes have some issues too.

Try working off a local drive.

This is neither an acceptable answer nor a solution.  It's 2019, this should be a supported thing.  We're paying a great deal of money to Adobe for their product, and with that is an expectation that it works in a 2019 infrastructure.

We have a team that uses materials that need to be saved in a shared location.

The person having this problem is not using Mojave, however the NAS is a Synology.  I need a better answer than "working off a local drive."  That's a workaround, not a solution.

I appreciate the response, and reiterating this, but people have been complaining about this for several years.  It's time for it to stop being an issue.

Ok, should be doesn't get us far. Adobe does not support working across a network.

There are a lot of potential issues on a network and most software vendors will give you the same advice- it may or may not work right.

If its broken, you can flail around or you can copy files to your local drive.

Easy to say.  However, not so easy to explain to the team that has been doing it successfully.  Again, as much as you say it, it's not an acceptable response to tell me that in 2019, a piece of software is incapable of saving to a network location.

I know you don't work for Adobe, so there is nothing you can do, but in the scheme of things a workaround isn't acceptable.  I see people complaining about this issue going back for years, and it has fallen on deaf ears.  That's not acceptable.

Reality is that Adobe is the professional standard and you can go with different software or follow their recommendations.

I am one of the rare people on both the creative and IT sides. I get it. But based on my experience, don't work off a server. Its going to break, sooner if not later.

I think its not just acceptable but smart for Adobe to draw the support lines at what they can control. Networks add major complexity and Adobe can't go down every rabbit hole of a bad network.

Hi

We do not work for Adobe. You can raise a system request here:

That's fine, but when Adobe sends you to a "support" forum instead of handling the issue themselves, you will have to expect this.  They are treating the community as a help desk.

Like I said, you can raise a feature request using the link I provided. Those are seen by Adobe developers and also give other users a chance to support and comment on the request.

We can advise people how to use the software here, and how work-around some issues, but we do not control the development roadmap.
