Why is the maximum image size 300,000px x 300,000px?

Can I increase it beyond 300,000px x 300,000px?

Here are the official limiitations:

"PSD limits pixel dimensions to 30,000 x 30,000 and max size to 2GB.

PSD files are limited to 2 Gig because of the file format design and compatibility with other applications. That really cannot be changed.

That's why the PSB format was created, to allow for much larger files (in pixel dimension and total file size).

300,000 x 300,000 and 4 exabytes, which modern hardware does not touch.

PSB files work up to around 4 Exabytes, and we can't go beyond that without changing the OS file APIs to allow more then 64 bits for the file size and position."

You're welcome. It's also good for me to go over how and whys of these basics. And that's just Photoshop. If you are in PSB territory, you have to be sure third party software and output devices such as printers can handle them.

I am an extreme Gigapixel shooter and unfortunatelt Adobe doesn't cater for this.

This 500,000px wide 360° panorama was stitched in PTGUI Pro, but Adobe was unable to process the PSB file.

I had to purchase Affinity Photo to be able to handle it.

Please post a Feature Request (or add your vote if one already exists) to make sure the Photoshop team is aware that the restriction does indeed affect some users (or former users?).
