Hi there, I was wondering if someone could help me with this issue,

I'm trying to increase images of a client's artwork made in illustrator to over 300 ppi in photoshop.

The images are embedded. When I click unembed and edit in photoshop and increase the ppi it doesn't increase the resolution in illustrator when I click on links after saving.

Any suggestions?

My first thought was to get request a packaged illustrator file /original file if it was made in photoshop

In Photoshop, you cannot have two different resolutions within the same document. All elements must share the same resolution. I don't quite understand what your issue is. Are you looking to scale a vector file or something else? If you have vector data, scaling it up will not result in any loss of quality.
