Indexing gradient in photoshop?

Community Beginner ,
Apr 27, 2020 Apr 27, 2020

Hey there,

I'm looking for a solution to being able to index gradients in photoshop so that it evenly indexes the gradient in a pixeled way. At the moment if I select "index colours" it does apply the selected amount of colours to the design but the gradient appears in a weird colour-way with a sort of strange pattern, not evenly. What I'm looking for is this (I need it for working with industrial weaving machines):

Thank you very much for any idea and help!

Please post a screenshot including the »Indexed Colors«-settings.

How many different colors does your Color Table have?

Hi c_pfaffenbichler,

I made screenshots of two different settings, let me know if those are the right screenshots you asked for!

If you are dissafisfied with »Diffusion« and »Noise« you may have to manually pre-rasterize the gradient.

Thank you for your comment. Which function do you think works best for pre-rasterizing a gradient?

I think setting a Gradient Layer to Blend Mode »Dissolve« may provide an option.
