Inverse Selection issue

Everytime I use the pen tool and then convert to selection from the path, it automatically inverses it.

Also when I try to fill the path, it fills the inverse as well.

Anyone know what might be causing this?

You have the Pen tool set to draw inverse paths, check the Options bar and make sure that it's set to Add to path area:

Take pentool and look at top menu bar. Icon style is 2 square

    (Subract Front Shape) change to

(Combine Shapes) on top menu bar

If the selection is inverse of what you want, then simply choose Select>Inverse, or Shift+Ctrl+I and it will invert the selection and you're good to go.

The selection is fine, but I can't select the inverse of a path.

I don't want to convert the path to a selection, invert it and convert to path again because it won't come out exactly how I wanted.

I have to assume that your path also includes the frame of the image. Select and delete the portion of the path around the frame of your work space. That may solve the issue. I'm not exactly sure what it is that you're trying to accomplish that can't be done by making a selection from the path instead of the path itself, but give that a try and see if it works.
