hello. I have an issue resizing images, maybe someone is able to help...?

I need to create a final image which is 20 cm x 28 cm, including a 1.5 cm white border.

I start with the original image without border (20 x 28) and create a canvas of 3 cm (width and height), so now the image is 23 cm x 31 cm, however when I try to resize the image back to 20 x 28 it doesn't scale correctly. If I input the size for the width and height separately the image stretches from the orignal image at the very beginning.

It seems like the proportions are incorrect. see attachment, please.

Thanks in advance. Beppe1.jpg2.jpg3.jpg

This isn't Photoshop; it's geometry.

3 cm is a bigger proportion of 20 cm than 28 cm.

To keep proportions you need to expand in %, not cm. Just think about it: keep adding 3 cm many times, and you end up with close to a square if you do it enough times.

@D Fosse is correct. What you might do instead is:

  • Create the document for your final size
  • Put the "bird on the wire" image in the center with the correct dimensions
  • Add a border with the border command or create a new layer on the bottom of the stack and fill it with white.
  • Don't resize when finished

Now I'm thinking of Leonard Cohen...

It's actually a real photo from a WW2 memorial site in Norway. The bird was there, although I admit I moved it a tad...it was too good to pass up 😉
