Issues/crashes when using the pen tool

After using the pen tool for a while, the image periodically jumps as if I have knocked the hand tool, but the path remains in the same place. I image then jumps back when the next action is performed. I am then able to save the image as normal, but Photoshop normally crashes when I close the image.

If I am able to close the image without Photoshop crashing, the issue remains with the next image I open, unless I close and restart Photoshop, which then functions normally until I use the pen tool for a length of time, when it resurfaces.

I have version 19.1.6.5940 in Windows 7

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately resetting the preferences hasn't worked - I will try reinstalling/running the cleaner tool next.

I've not heard of issues where the pen tool causes a crash before, which makes me wonder if Photoshop is broken.  Reset Preferences (from the General tab) as a first step, and if the issue persists, I'd be inclined to got straight to reinstalling Photoshop, but run the Cleaner tool after the uninstall

That type of crash  I find are usually is related to your graphics, Check that you have the latest device driver available for you display adapter and you do not have two different GPU enabled for Photoshop use.

There are other crash reports that Adobe generates that get sent to Adone there is a Popup dialog to send them or not send.

Thanks, I think this might be the answer. Although both Windows and the software for my graphics card indicated the driver was up to date, checking the manufacturers site showed that there was in fact an update. I have now applied this and it has been OK for the short time I have been using Photoshop since the update. I will confirm that this has solved the issue once I have a few hours of crash free use.

Well Photoshop has just crashed after 5 hours, which is longer than I was generally getting before updating the driver and without the screen glitches I was getting before, so it looks like this has addressed some but not all of the issues. Again the crash is not showing in the reliability history, but it did send a report to Adobe.

You driver date is showing as "glgpu[0].GLDriverDate="20161004000000.000000-000"

According to the AMD website there's a more recent updated driver available dated 8/27/2018

Thanks, I've not had any crashes today, I'm still not sure how I managed to revert to the old driver, but I can only assume that is what caused the last crash.  Thanks again.
