When the Crop tool is selected, I cannot temporarily access the Move tool by pressing the Command key (Control Key on Windows).
Why is that, and is there a workaround to change this behaviour?

You can use what are known as Spring-loaded keys, that is if you have the Crop Tool selected you can temporarily access the Move Tool by pressing V, use the move tool then when you release the V key it should go back to the Crop Tool

I do not use the crop tool and I use windows so I just tried the crop tool on CS6 and Photoshop 2020. Pressing the Ctrl key with the Crop tool active I see the cursor change to what look like a leveling tool and I can drag out an overlay line.

Yes, that is the problem. With any other tool, when you press the modifier key (Ctrl key on Windows or the Command Key on Mac), the Move tool is temporarily activated until you let go of the Modifier key.

Hi there,
As you're not able to access the Move Tool while you're in Crop mode, have you tried tapping the Alt key and see if the cursor changes to Move tool?

Sahil

I am not in Crop Mode. I just have the Crop tool selected. The transform controls are not visible on the image.

Hi,
If the command key is pressed while using the Crop tool, it will switch to the Straighten tool.
I don't know a workaround to change this behavior.
However, if you do not press a key, you are in move mode.

Hi,
Is there a difference between pressing and not pressing the V key when using the crop tool?
Isn't it used like this image?
Or is it used like this image? Here the V key works.

Press and hold the V key to access the Move Tool while the Crop Tool is selected. It won't work if you are in crop mode.

Hi,
That is what I am saying. After 1:05, the V key will not work and you will not be able to move the moon layer.

That's because, at that point, I'm in "Crop Mode" (I have clicked on the image and started dragging the transform controls). Notice the gridlines on the image.
After selecting the Crop Tool from the tools panel, and before you click on the image or start dragging the transform handles, you can press and hold the V key to switch temporarily to the Move Tool. You can also press any key to select another tool.
But once you click on the image, you enter Crop Mode. When you're in Crop Mode, you can't switch to any other tool until you exit Crop Mode by pressing the Escape or Enter Key. You can tell you're in Crop Mode when you see the Checkmark icon on the Options bar and the gridlines over the image.

I forgot to add that the standard shortcut of pressing the Ctrl/Cmd key to get the move tool doesn't work with a few tools including the Crop Tool.
