Lasso tool problems

Jul 19, 2023 Jul 19, 2023

Been having these problems with the lasso tool in recent versions of Photoshop, since at least v.23.

While performing a lasso and holding down the option key to maintain a long, complex lasso, if you move the cursor/lasso tool outside of the rulers/scroll bar areas in order to scroll the image the tool gets stuck to the system icons. Like the regular black mouse cursor arrow, or more commonly the double arrow tool for resizing a window. You have to let go of the option key to commit the selection in order to get the lasso tool icon back. Confirmed it happens with precise cursors enabled, the polygonal lasso tool and magnetic lasso tool, and the various performance/native canvas settings.

The other bug which also relates to panning the image mid-lasso, pressing the space bar to pan the image results in very strange behavior best shown in my video example. The image zooms out one level and then does this slow motion laggy business until you let go of the option key to commit the selection. With the polygonal and magnetic lasso it zooms out but doesn’t get the slow motion.

Currently on the latest macOS 13.4.1 and Photoshop 24.6. For hardware various Intel Mac Pros and Mac Studio with Wacom tablets.

While I’m complaining about the lasso tool it would be nice if we could get back features it used to have, like being able to make a negative selection while holding down the option key out of your current selection which used to be possible. It’s been many years but my keyboard muscle memory says it was by holding down the control key at the same time as option. Also accelerated scrolling which is strangely absent now.
