I'm having the same problem with my 2009 macbook pro (9600M GT). CS6, which I've been using the whole time due to other bugs in CC (text tools, broken batch processing) has no issues using the gpu so it's clearly a bug in photoshop and not actually a problem with the gpu driver.

I would suggest using cs6 for a few more months while they sort CC out.

I have the same model MacBook Pro with this problem, and using Photoshop CC 14.0 works just fine, so I have downgraded to that one while I wait for a solution from Adobe.

You're running a beta version of MacOS.

The 9600M does have some serious problems in the driver (which appears to slow down the longer the machine has been running).  We're investigating.

Since 14.1 my photoshop has been crashing consistently also:

I am using the stable 13.4 Catalyst drivers for a HD7970 on Windows 7 64bit.

The update to 14.1.1 which installed this morning hasn't fixed it.  I have tried removing the drivers by standard method and reinstalling, I have also tried removing the drivers, then running a full driver clean using the official AMD tool, and reinstalling, neither of which helped.

Is it possible to rollback to version 14.0 somehow?  It was all working fine last week.  At least today I can make a selection without Photoshop crashing, so that's an improvement over 14.1.

As indicated by the sniffer crashes - something is wrong with your video card or it's drivers.  You probably need to contact AMD for more information (to diagnose the problem with the card, or get them information to debug the driver).

Well, since no other OpenGL or Direct3d application exhibits this problem, and the card has been perfectly stable since purchase several weeks ago, it seems unlikely that the problem is the video card hardware.

If there is a problem with the Catalyst 13.4 drivers, can you advise which driver works with Photoshop 14.1?  They seemed to work fine with 14.0.  Is it possible to roll back Photoshop versions?

edit:  Running the sniffer_gpu.exe program in the Photoshop folder gives:

For most people the 13.4 drivers are working just fine.

This is why I think AMD will need to get more information from you to diagnose the problem with the drivers or hardware.

And other applications probably don't use the same GPU calls that Photoshop does, and may not encounter the same defects in the drivers or hardware.

You should be able to uninstall PS 14.1.1 and then install from Try and that should get you back to 14.0.

Since you can't just download installers or updaters as has been possible in the past how does one deal with reverting back to a previous point version. Say if 14.2 is brings new bugs and and you want to return to 14.1.1. Seems to me under CC that you can uninstall and start again at 14.0 (and this is still a big question) but if you try to update your only option will be 14.2.

It did not "work fine" in 14.0 -- your drivers have a problem, but 14.0 didn't identify the problem (which probably lead to unexpected behavior or crashes while using Photoshop).

The sniffer has been updated to identify more problems (before they crash the main application) - and now it sees that your driver or card has a problem, and disabled GPU services because your driver or video card have serious problems.

You really need to contact AMD and figure out the problems with your video card and it's drivers.

Thank you Chris... The Beta driver is the only one that had any effect. Now my HP Designjet Z5400 is not functional. Photoshop crashes when I try and access 'print'.

Seriously Chris, I'm getting one problem after another and its all in Photoshop. HP's official line is the Spain Printer development Lab are working on it. Oddly enough other Photo editing programs with nearly equal capabilities to Photoshop don't have any of these issues. None of my other Adobe software is misbehaving, only Photoshop CC. How bad is it that Adobe automatically update Photoshop and it stops working? Roll back to an earlier time and it still updates itself at the next check-in.

Using a Beta program in a production environment just to be able to use Photoshop's magic wand or lasso is pretty poor stuff, wouldn't you agree? The problem is still not fully addressed. The screen will still flicker at a critical point. I knew the driver was old but it was (a few months ago) the only one Windows 7 would work reliably with. Since upgrading to Window 8 and then updating to 8.1 I've had nothing but trouble with Photoshop CC. It all started when Adobe decided my otherwise perfectly working Photoshop needed to be "fixed". They sure fixed it this time.

If it continues, I'm going to conside the possibility of dumping Adobe products altogether. No point in renting them if they don't work and in Australia, that's grounds for not just a refund but compensation for the time and money lost trying to make it work.

13.9 has seemed to be a solid driver update. See this post for more info:

I would check that driver again to see if if works. Maybe the first uninstall of the driver didn't clear out some cruft?

I used the AMD removal tool and re-installed the driver then the printer driver. All seem to function now. thanks for your help... Life shouldn't be this hard when your income depends on everything working in harmony.

Look at it this way:  If it was easy everyone could do it. 

I'll echo Steve's comment above:  Catalyst 13.9 is a really good driver release overall.  I'm almost dreading the next version, because it's hard to improve on perfection, but easy to do the other...
