Lighting Effects Failure on Photoshop 2020

Just installed PS 2020 and the lighting effect filter doesn't work anymore. The images are 8 bits and RGB, but when you try to apply the filter the sole slider working is the Ambience one. It disables the filter even on already-applied filters.

It worked only once, when I firs started up the program. So I re-installed it and it only works once.

Any idea?

Hello, are you working in a localized version of Photoshop? And in Ps 21.0.3?

I have been researching this as I am teaching a class and am having the problems reported here with a 'blacked-out' screen or area that I'm trying to light. I've tried the suggestions but still having issues. I'm on a PC, and my class is taught in a high-end PC lab...so big problems here. Adobe needs to fix this as this is a key tool.
With students, I can't go to every individual computer and walk them through adjusting preferences...there isn't time for that in this class.

Photoshop should work on your high end PC machines. If everything is installed and updated properly.   Make sure all Windows Updated are installed and all the installed system  Device drivers are the latest one for you devices.  Particularly for your graphics display Adapter.  Make sure the machines does not also have an integrated GPU that is enabled for use by Photoshop. Make sure your motherboard's firmware BIOS is up to date. Install Photoshop's updates.

Adobe Photoshop has a problem running on machines that have more the one model GPU available for use.  Photoshop Image windows often are blank or black when there are different GPU available for use. troubleshoot gpu graphics card

Hi JJMack, thanks for the response.

The problem is that I am a lowly adjunct instructor in an institute of
higher education. Trying to affect anything involving permissions on
software, machines, etc. is like...trying to predict Texas weather.

I'd just like Adobe to please fix this. I have 23 students and it would
take a major ordeal to make adjustments, along with the fact that parts of
my class are online.

Best,
Lee Anne

It sound like you preferences or tool settings may have been corrupted try resetting your PS 2020 tools and preferences. I see many sliders and presets in PS 2020. Note PS icon has rounder edges and text is white this is a 2020 grab.

Thanks for the answer.

I feel you are right, I installed PS 2020 on my Mac Pro and the filter works nicely. So it must be a problem tied to my other machine (iMac). Will try to reset tools and preferences.

Hi Mario,

Did you find a workable solution ?

I tried like JJMack said to reset tools and preference, but I go back with the same issue. Works once, and then only the ambiant setting is making a difference...
