Hi all,

Recently on my Windows 10 PC my desktop versions of Lightroom and Photoshop have suddenly started to mke series of audable beeps after start up that come through my PC speakers or headphones.

Its a series of 4 beeps with each beep being a slightly higher tone than the last.
There are No errors/warnings/notifications at all.
My lightroom cloud or lightroom classic ver 12.4 and Photoshop 24.7.0 (Beta) and 24.6.0

What is weird is I also have Photoshop and Lightroom installed on my Mini PC using Windows 11 in a different room same versions and when I open the desktop apps they make no noise/beeps.

Does anyone know what might cause this?  Its specific to these two apps, I'm not seeing the issue with any other apps.

Thank you JEL and Nancy both for your help and replies.

I was asking about this issue over on a photographer chat group and somebody pointed me to a Link which suggested it was the  it was radeon software. I noticed lightoom was loading slower than normal also as well as the beeps that were happening.   It was suggested to me that cuase of this was the Radion Gaming software (which I had not changed which is weird)  I followed the suggestion of turning off one of the settings.

I went into graphics

Hi @bullets.ie, if you are sure it isn't something within Windows sound settings, it may be because you have another software app running. Other users found that DisplayFusion was causing the beeping. Any chance you have that installed and running?

Hiya @J E L ,
I dont use DisplayFusion,  I tried unplugging any devices such as printers/bluetooth/SSDs and I closed any apps that were running on the taskbar, closed stuff like screeen calibration profiles etc, removed any devices and turned off bluetooth etc etc,  I only had mouse and virus protection on and nearly all other processes and apps killed off.   Still making those bleeps.     I cant seem to identify what is causing it.

I've no new hardware or have no new apps installed, I only noticed the change recently after Photoshop/Lightroom updated and there was a recent windows update,  Its also weird that my MiniPC does not have the same isse and also has simiar updates   so like you suggested it is likely a Windows sound that seems to only get activated when running  Photoshop or Lightroom for some reason.

@bullets.ie, okay, thanks for that extra info and ruling out a lot of possible sources. It is strange! I just did an update, too,  (Windows 10 Pro; V22H2; OS build 19045.3086) but I'm not getting any sounds on launching Photoshop or Lightroom desktop apps. In your Lightroom Preferences, what does it show under “Completion Sounds” (even though you are hearing sound on startup)?

Anything look strange in these Windows settings?

I dont see anything out of the ordinary, I actually went through all the default windows system sounds and could not see any that matched what I hear, and I checked the settings like you mentioned.

I've a short video showing lightroom opening, there's a short delay and when it loads the sound is in the vid,

not sure how to post images/videos here but I've uploaded 2 screenshots and a short 13mb video on my google drive and have the links below:

See latest system requirements:

Assuming you have sufficient resources to support Creative Cloud, PS and LR, the 4 beeps error could signal a memory problem.  Or a failing memory module.

Run Windows Memory diagnostics to see what's going on.

Hope that helps.

I went into graphics -> gaming -> turned off Radeon Anti-lag  and turned it to off.  There was another setting called Chill which was already off.

After I did this the issue dissappeared.  Lightroom loads faster now and the beeping sound has stopped.

Thanks again for the support and information.
