Magic wand tool stopped selecting. Please help.

I am working on a typographic portrait for class in Photoshop. I am trying to change and select a different color in the image to do my text. The magic wand tool has stopped selecting and I don't know how to fix it or what to check. Please advise.

Resetting the tool or your preferences usually works if a tool stops working correctly.

If Chuck’s advice should not have solved the issue anyway could you please post a screenshot taken at View > 100% and with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Channels, Options Bar, …) visible?
