I'm trying to create a pattern from an image in photoshop, and I have a file with one layer (the image). When I Click the plus sign (+) in the Libraries panel in photoshop and select Create from Image, the Define Pattern dialogue box doesn't show. I've made 100's of patterns, and now the Define Pattern dialogue box no longer shows, to create more patterns. How do I fix?

Educate me, RB -- when did this stop working for you, e.g., were any OS or app upgrades installed?
Is an area selected? What versions of OS and Ps are you running?
I was able to create a pattern using your instructions. However, I did not see a "define pattern" dialog, just a prompt box for "Pattern Name."

The pattern maker stopped working in the last couple of days, and OS or app upgrades were installed. I have a macOS Sequoia version 15.6 operating system. It sounds like you are having the same issue as me, there is supposed to be a secondary dialoge box that appears to desgn the pattern.

I opened Ps 2024 | v25.12.4, created a pattern -- no secondary dialog, using Edit>Define Pattern or the + sign in the Patterns tab.

I searched for "photoshop pattern tutorial" (got many hits). Here is one quickie:

What version of Photoshop are you using?
In Photoshop version 2025, clicking on the + sign at the bottom of the Libraries panel has Extract from Image, then you create your Pattern and use Save to CC Libraries.
Then in the Libraies panel you either double click on the saved Pattern to render a Pattern Fill Layer in your open document or right click on the saved Pattern and click Create Pattern Preset, which will put a preset of the pattern in the Window>Patterns panel.

Thank you Jeff. This is the dialogue box I've been using to create patterns. Except, it no longer shows when I click "+ " in Libraries. The screenshots you've shared is the pathway I've taken to create hundreds of patterns and I'm not sure why I can't access the same design tool/ dialogue box anymore. All I did was step away from the computer for a couple of days...

There's always the tried-and-true reset settings...

I would try a reset of the Photoshop preferences:
