Merging Hotkey no longer functioning?

Explorer ,
Jul 14, 2024 Jul 14, 2024

hey all after setting merge layers to ctrl e -> Ctrl shift E (Keep pressing ctrl E unintentionally so had to change it)

now my "Merge a copy of all visible layers into target layer" doesnt work anymore (Ctrl shift alt e)
When I try changing a random hotkey like Undo to Ctrlshiftalt E, it says that its still being used by the above command....

but i cant find that command anywhere.

Anyone know a solution for this whole thing?

Hey, @Gene27167201cqus. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.

Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here.

What language are you working in Photoshop with? Please use the On-Screen Keyboard from the Start menu on Windows to confirm if the input is working correctly. I tried recreating this with Photoshop 2024 & Photoshop (beta) on test devices.

Ensure there are no stale preferences in your Photoshop. Go to the location of the preference folder below and rename it to backup: https://adobe.ly/4860qM9

  • Windows 10/11: Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • You can press Press the Windows key > Enter 'Run' > Enter %APPDATA%\Adobe
  • Rename the Adobe Photoshop folder by adding a .old at the end. (Adobe Photoshop 2024 > Rename > Adobe Photoshop 2024. old), You can restore these preferences later if needed.(https://adobe.ly/4860qM9)
  • Restart the computer.

These changes will give a fresh start to Photoshop as a fresh install. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Howdy Gene! I don't know that quick key, and I use a Mac, but I was just noticing that merge down command+ E or Control+ E on the PC is not working anymore.

But I do have a fix for you. You just create a new layer and then hold down the alt key and then select merge visible from the contextual menu in the layers panel, and it'll put all the visible layers into that one new layer.
Another option is press Control+A to select all, and and then go to "Edit>Copy Merged" or Shift+Control+C and then press control V to paste everything into a new layer!

Hope that helps! If you have a fix for merge down or know what happened to it, please let me know!

Cheers,
Mark
