minimize long distance telephoto diffraction waves?

Just off the top of my head, do you use Camera Raw? There is a slider for lens corrections including distortion.

That is a different kind of distortion more like lens warping.

I wonder if you took multiple exposures and but them in an image stack if you could minimize it.
