Mixing fonts in Photoshop.

I was putting glyphs from Desire Pro font into another font (Tangerine) and PS kept locking up. Had to restart the computer -twice-. I guess we're not supposed to do that, or I just did it wrong.

Hmm... I activated both Desire Pro and Tangerine and mixed them in a text frame. I'm wondering if there's something else that may have caused the crash.

My Windows system has been prone to crashing with Photoshop for the last two versions, but I don't know if the problem is with Photoshop or the OS.  One common denominator is file handling, but not related to document loading and saving.  More to do with loading a tool, and especially Neural Filters, but not exclusively Neural filters.  The fact that it happens when downloading a Neural Filter — I watch the indicator get close to 100% where my entire system shuts down — makes me wonder if it is not strictly an issue with Photoshop.  It has also happened with complex Smart Objects where I suspect the drive is being accessed.  I have 64Gb RAM, but Photoshop never seems to use anywhere near its allocated RAM, even when I have 30Gb temp files on the Scratch Drives.

I've hinted at this behaviour on this forum before, but no one has said 'me too', but the activity mentioned in the OP is very much in line with what might cause my issues.  FWIIW I plan to do a clean OS reinstall, and build a new system if that fails.

I've tried all the options Michelle, and nothing made a difference.  It was easy to test because one of the Neural Filters crashed my system at the place every single time.  It got better with the current version, but still happens.  Dave suggested that I not use the Game Ready driver (I run an RTX2070 in a six year old system)

I don't want to hijack this thread.  I was just making the point that I have ongoing issues that I think might be relevant to the OP's issue, but no one has said 'Hey, that same things happens to me!' so my gut tells me this is not an Adobe driven fault.  It's about time to upgrade anyway.

If it helps, I tested activating both Desire Pro and Tangerine from Adobe Fonts and mixing them in a text frame on Windows 10--and it worked. So it could be an issue that might be addressed in the troubleshooting steps page which include:

1. Check for a Known issue in Photoshop.
2. Force quit and restart Photoshop or restart your computer.
3. Update Photoshop to the latest version
4. Reset Photoshop’s preferences
5. Troubleshoot GPU and graphics driver
6. Keep your macOS or Windows operating system up to date.

From that list, resetting Preferences may be the best place to start.

How many activated fonts do you have?

What formats are the two fonts?

Also, do you have your filtering inside the font drop down menu set to all classes or just a specific class?
