My eraser refuses to anti-alias or feather, not sure which it is

I have tried updating resetting the tool, resetting all tools, changing the brush tip, updating to the latest version, and even deleting my settings by holding cntrl+shift+alt while starting the app. Literally nothing is working and I am at my wits end.

this is what my eraser is doing. As you can see, everything I did managed to fix the pen tool but not the eraser tool. Please help me fix this!!!

Could you please post more meaningful screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, Brush Settings, …) visible? 

What are the Tool’s settings, in particular its Blend Mode (see Options Bar)?
