Opening CS3 files made on a PC

Hi

I have several photoshop files made using CS3 on a Dell PC. I am planning to acquire a new IMac and am wondering if I will be able to open these files there using the latest version of photoshop for Mac. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance...

PSDs can open on Photoshop Mac or Windows. Any version of Photoshop on any OS will read and edit them.

the trap is that its only a one way workflow

a new Mac will only allow 64 bit software to run and that will have to be a more up to date version than CS3 so after you open | edit | save the Psd it will not still be readable by your old system with Cs3

What gener7 said.

Forward compatibility (opening older PSDs in newer versions of Photoshop) - what you are describing - is no problem.

Backward compatibility (opening newer PSDs in older versions of Photoshop) is where Compatibility Settings in Photoshop are required.
