Opening older version files in photoshop 2021

How do I open my older files in photoshop 2021?  I have a lot of work saved from many years ago that I want to open but I get an error message stating that the psd file is not recognized.  It makes no sense that a photoshop file is not recognized by photoshop.

Are you positive it is a PSD and not another file with the wrong extension?

Very positive.  I created the files in photoshop in 2011-2018.

Check 2021's File Settings as shown in this screenshot. Does this help?

I see the files are grayed out with a cloud next to it. Is it stored on your local computer drive or a cloud or other remote server?

Stored in the cloud.

So what I notice is that Photoshop cannot access the cloud files. Without knowing what it is, I can suggest copying the files to your local drive or an external drive and opening them from there.

Is the .pmd file a PageMaker document?

I have the same problem, can't open up files, they are not corrupt but won't let me open. I think it is the 2021 version of photoshop. I need to access my files that are on an external drive but can't. Very frustrating

To find your version:

• Mac: PS menu > About
• Win: Help menu > About

Can you try copying a file to your internal drive and see if you can open it from there?
