Hi All,

Apologies for the flashing/strobing you're experiencing when opening files, this tends to affect older graphics cards (GPU) that don't support all of the aspects of DirectX 12.

For Windows:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Enable the Older GPU Mode option in Preferences > Technology Previews > “Use Older GPU Mode (pre 2016)"
  3. Check if there's a GPU driver update available and update if so

For macOS:

  1. Update Photoshop to version 24.5 or later
  2. Update to a newer or latest ma

We would like to find out if there are any of you on Windows for whom:

A. Use Older GPU Mode is Checked, and

B. Deactivate Native canvas is Unchecked, and

C. are still experiencing this strobing issue with a GPU that supports DirectX 12?

If so, could you please provide Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text in this thread?

Cześć. Też mam problem z migotaniem po wczorajszej aktualizacji. Starszy interfejs w Preferencjach, nie rozwiązał problemu.

I don't see why this migration should be a "bumpy ride". For Windows, the Adobe developers most likely go with Visual Studio. The software can check whether OpenGL is installed at all and what other libs (DirectX?) there are as well and then use one of them. This would automatically lead to the switch "Deactivate native canvas" being checked or not.

Once the new PS version is in beta stage, it's installed on a freshly setup Windows 10 machine, real or virtual (real is way better). Then they test the software, running on Windows 10 and 11. They should have seen this effect themselves.

What's bumpy here?

By the way, version 24.0 with that option activated, doesn't have the flicker effect.

Hi Ged_Traynor,
OK, but I will ask step by step how to enter these settings, I don't know where I can find preferences or options like those in the picture.
