P: Photoshop 24.3 Strobes in Black and White when Opening files

when attempting to open a photo in Photoshop on my HP Laptop, details below, the photo appears in the layers tab bottom right, but not in the workspace /desktop: It is a constant Black / White strobe. The desktop /workspace flashes Black and white

Hi Gred, just tried your bypass, it works. I have two (at least 10 yrs old) desktop PC's both with Nvidea drivers. On one PS 24.3 works without problems, on the other I had to Deactivate Native Canvas. I am trying to fix the driver problem now. -- Thank You.

If it is of any use, I have the following additional information:
PC1 (no problems): Nvidia driver 516.94 (11/13/2022), PhysX 9.19.0218 (7/11/2020), GeForce GTX 1050
PC2 (with bypass): Nvidia driver 516.94 (11/17/2022), PhysX 9.21.0713 (7/1/2022), GeForce GTX 750 Ti

@rob-k the GTX 750 Ti is the older of the GPU's you have, this issue seems to be related to the older GPU's that are pre 2016 release, the GTX 750 Ti was released in 2014

GTX 750 Ti has DirectX runtime 12.0 with 3D feature level 11_0, GTX 1050 has DirectX runtime 12.0 with 3D feature level 12_1. Anyway, thank you for the bypass, it works. Perhaps I should upgrade my Graphics card...

I had the same problem and the Ged Traynor solution worked.

However I also found a driver update that was released on 3/23/2023.

This is under Photoshop Help --> GPU Compatability. 

(I could have sworn i just updated the video driver, but I guess time flies when having fun in Photoshop!)

Had this same issue after the update. Compatibility checker said my GPU was compatible and my drivers are up to date. Ged_Traynor's solution is the best one. There's obviously an issue with the Native Canvas feature. At least they fixed the rulers on this update *smh*

I've also just updated to Photoshop 24.3 and I'm experiencing the same problem. I try to open a file and I get a non-stop flashing light.

When I opened a new file, my photoshop started to splash screen. I can't use it no matter what I try. I have tried uninstall it and install again but still didn't fix the problem. I have also check the update and it is already the newest version. What can I do to fix it ?

Perhaps try a thorough reset of Photoshop preferences?

Resetting restores Photoshop's internal preferences, which are saved when Photoshop closes. 

If they become corrupt then various issues can occur.

You may want to backup your settings and custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Before you reset your preferences

in case of future issues, I suggest you make a copy as Adobe may need one to check problematic references. 

Quit Photoshop.
Go to Photoshop's Preferences folder

Now you can drag the entire Adobe Photoshop [Version] Settings folder to the desktop or somewhere safe as a back-up of your settings.

Note for those on macOS:

Preference preservation is affected by macOS permissions, 

you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

If that doesn't fix the issue:

Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Multithreaded Compositing - and restart Photoshop.

Still hanging? 

Go to Preferences > Performance... click Advanced Settings... and uncheck "GPU Compositing" - then restart Photoshop. 

Still got problems?

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop. 

It’s recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first. 

(See above about preserving preferences though! It’s worth preserving them unless they are corrupted.)

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

Hi all. I am new art student. I am trying to work on an assignment in Photoshop. When I open my program, it just flashes like a strobe light.
