P: Photoshop unusable after updating Intel macOS 26 Tahoe

New Here ,
Sep 18, 2025 Sep 18, 2025

Hello everyone,

Is anyone experiencing Ps not running properly after updating their Macbook Pro to Tahoe 26.0?

Every action takes 10 seconds to load, it's super laggy and literally unusable. I purged, I restarted, I reinstalled, I did it all - nothing.

Any ideas? Is this a bug Adobe/Apple have to sned an update for?

16in 2019 i9, UHD 630, 32GB RAM, 500GB

Thanks, have a good day

While Photoshop and other Adobe apps have yet to receive compatibility updates for macOS Tahoe, our user @helpful_parent4032 has shared a Reddit thread that might help. Please feel free to try it and check if it helps: https://adobe.ly/4mvZVRY

It can't be that alone, I have three machines on Tahoe where my apps stay open and I'm not seeing slowdowns on any of them. One Intel, one M1, one M3.

The Intel is my production box at work (Photoshop and Bridge ALWAYS running) and my M1 is at home (Photoshop and Lightroom Classic ALWAYS running.) Performance hasn't changed noticeably from Big Sur all the way up to Sequoia.

Problems may be centered around the generative fill AI interface.

That's when I really start crapping out.

I feel you, man. This ONE time, I decided to fall for Apple's hype and upgrade on release day. Now I am also paying for it.

Yup. I did it thinking that if it blew-up I could back-install to an earlier OS, discovered later that doesn't work anymore. I'm actually thinking about renting another MacPro and having it installed with Sierra, but as soon as I go to that trouble Apple & Adobe will figure this out. I just spent two hours in PS doing something that should've taken 20 minutes. I'm wondering how much editing I can get done in MidJourney Alpha.

The same here. I was recommended to upgrade because the latest Apple TV programs weren't appearing, so I downloaded Tahoe without thinking about Photshop. Dead in the water .

What ultimately worked for me was running Creative Cloud Cleaner to remove all trace of the creative suites from my computer then rebuilding. Apple also just brought Tahoe to .0.1. I have no idea what that patch is addressing though.

I'm running the full CC suite on a 2019 MacBook Pro, i7/16G/1TB/Radeon Pro 5300M without issues. I have not seen any difference in performance from Sonoma or Sequoia. As a data point.

I'm not running CC. I have a stand-alone 2022 PhotoShop. Thanks Anyway.

There is no standalone 2022 Photoshop. Photoshop is part of the CC suite, obviously it can be installed on its own but it requires the rest of the CC support apps.

@Pops1949 the message you posted on the other post is from Photoshop Elements, not Photoshop Creative Cloud.

This thread is about Photoshop Creative Cloud.

It's not a marginal thing. You'd know right away.

So glad to be rid of that.

It would be worth a manual reset of the Photoshop 2025 preferences by going to

Macintosh HD/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences

and trashing the following:

Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings folder

Adobe Photoshop 2025 Paths

com.adobe.Photoshop.plist

One thing to do before trashing the files is to move any saved Workspaces in

Macintosh HD/Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop 2025 Settings/WorkSpaces

so you can put them back after trashing the 2025 Settings folder.

I don't know if you can help me with this or not, but I need to sing the praise of an Adobe support agent. I never got the survey link. Her name is Madhushree, and she was phenomenal. It took hours, and she just rocked it.

Any idea how I can get that message where it needs to go.

I just had a tech wipe all of Creative Suites and Creative Cloud off my machine, and that seems to have solved it. I'll work with it and report back.

Photoshop isn't slow for me, it just won't open under Tahoe 26.1, giving me this message: "Adobe Photoshop cannot run on this computer because the minimum system requirement is Mac OS X version 10.13.0'

@DavidHenry - your issue is different than the OP with current Photoshop. When you chose to remain on Photoshop 2020 you should have also stayed on the supported Mac OS for that version. Upgrading to Tahoe in all likelyhood has broken the compatibility with the older version of Photoshop. I would caution you against uninstalling at this point because there are no longer installers available for PS 2020. Support wont help you with this issue either as it only assists with CC2024 and 2025. 22.2 is still available for download/install if you want to test that.

Any computer that can run Tahoe can also run the current version of Photoshop. Use the CC App to update.

DavidHenry,

The solution for you is to simply use the Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop application to update Photoshop to the latest 2025 version.

Applications/Adobe Creative Cloud/Adobe Creative Cloud

And if need to use the 3D functions in Photoshop also install Photoshop 22.2
