Pen tilt in Photoshop on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet(2024)

New Here ,

I'm trying to get the photoshop pen tilt functionality to work with my surface pen. I'm on the new Microsoft Surface Pro 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet (2024), Windows 11 Copilot+ PC, 13" Touchscreen OLED Display, Snapdragon X Elite (12 Core), 16GB RAM, Im using the ARM version of Adobe Photoshop CC and the Slim Pen 2.

I should note that Pen tilt works great in a number of other apps including Adobe Fresco and Concepts. I've updated all of windows and ran the surface diagnositics app.

I see a little caution triangle in Photoshop next to the Pen Tilt setting in brush settings. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? Any help would be greatly appreciated. This was the entire reason I bought a surface pro. Thanks.

Hey @Eric24268833i148

Thanks for sharing the details—super helpful! Since tilt works fine in Fresco and Concepts, it sounds like the pen and OS are good to go. A few quick things you can check in Photoshop:

  • Make sure you’re on the latest version (Creative Cloud app > Updates).
  • Try a default brush like Hard Round Tilt in a new doc—some brushes don’t fully support tilt.
  • Open the Surface app and double-check that your Slim Pen 2 firmware is up to date.
  • In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink, confirm that Windows Ink is turned on.

That warning triangle usually means Photoshop isn’t detecting tilt correctly. If none of that helps, feel free to drop your Photoshop version number, and we’ll keep digging!
