Every time i create a new layer i have to reset my stroke and path to the colors i want, is there any way to set it so that i dont have to do this every time? im doing line work with many layers so it has been tedious to keep setting my fill to nothing and stroke to black

You can creat an action to do that. Create a shape first, then re ord an action to set it the way you want. Also the settings are sticky, so if you set the options the way you want, they will stay that way,but you have to do it while you're NOT on a shape layer.
