Is it possible to make a Photoshop image not be a rectangle or have a background that does not have any pixel values?
I am asking because of a program I am trying to run that extracts the L.A.B. color values and outputs a Excel file. The issue with this is the cropped image has a white background, which when run through the program, takes the majority of the file and Excel can only have a little over a million points of data. Thanks for your input.
Short answer, no.
You can save it with transparent background in a psd, tif or export as png.

Images cropped in Photoshop will either be square or rectangular. You may remove image background and keep it transparent.
Beside png format which can be associated in MS. Office workflow, try saving PDF out of Photoshop which honours transparencies and can be used in many applications including Microsoft Office.
