Hi, @Sameer K  here is the system Info and some Screenshots. the error only occurs if the adjustment layer is connected to the layers below. If I unlink the gradient tool in the mask works.

Dein Ebenenaufbau erschließt sich mir nicht ganz. Du verwendest ein Smartobjekt mit Ebenenmaske als Schnittmaske für das (gleiche oder ein ähnliches) Smartobjekt? Warum? 

Könnte eventuell dieses Konstrukt für die Fehlermeldung verantwortlich sein?

Nein, die beidenen Smart Objekte enthalten andere Inhalte (schaut nur im Thumbnail gleich aus). Ein ganz übliches Konstrukt eigentlich, hat so bis anhin auch immer funktioniert @pixxxelschubser
