Photoshop 2020 AutoRecover empty

New Here ,
May 19, 2020 May 19, 2020

Photoshop 2020 hung whilst working on a file saved on a portable hard drive.  I had been saving regularly throughout the day, but now when I reopen the file it's just a layer of coloured lines, like a scrambled TV picture from the 80s.

I've tried to locate my AutoRecover folder, which I've been told should be located in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC 2020/AutoRecover but it's not there - only an AMT and PDF folder exists.  However, when I do a search in Finder it does say it's in that location, only the folder is empty.

Does this mean there's no chance of recovering the file?

I have moved your question from Get Started to Photoshop.

Auto-recovery works fine for me as I always save work files to my primary (C:drive).  I use externals for backups and additional scratch disk space.  See this related discussion.
