Photoshop 2021 22.5.1 Running Horribly Slow on MAC!

Does anyone have answers on how to fix the incredibly slow lag and operation? It's so frustrating, kills my time and workflow but I can't find a direct answer on how to fix it.

For reference, I'm a photographer using photoshop for color grading and retouch on average size Canon 5DMK IV files. Photoshop lags no matter what size the file is, Tiff, JPG, 72dpi-300dpi, it operates at a snails pace.

My computer is 2019 Macbook Pro 2.4GHz 8-Core, 64 GB RAM, AMD Radeon Pro 5600 8GB Graphics Card, 2TB SSD Drive. macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

And when editing Photoshop is the only program open.

Would really love some help with this. It should not be this slow with a machine like I have.

Hello, did any of the users affected enable the Preferences/Technology Preview/Enable Content Credentials? One should try to install the latest version (Ps 23.2.2), or to disable that setting.

Photoshop 22.x performance is broken for very long time and I see many people report it but they don't do anything except answering "update your drivers", currently downgrade to 21.x works for me (I am on Windows), not sure what to do when 21.x will disappear https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/photoshop-22-x-gpu-performance-is-broken-for-about-a-year/idi-p/12454355

What's slow for you? The biggest difference between 21 and 22 is that Photoshop 22.x and later use native GPU support (Metal on macOS and DX12 on Windows) - so that's why we typically look at hardware/GPU - as slow downs reported tend to be machine/hardware specific.

I posted a link to detailed bug description and additional discussion, yes disabling GPU also helps but with disabled GPU PS works differently so I want to have it enabled. There is no progress with that issue for about a year, is there any way I could contact Adobe differently than via this forum?

I have the same issue. Just moving an image on a low res document is a struggle. Also trouble saving to network hard drives

Network drives can be a problem all on its own. Try to take that out of the equation first, and work off a local drive.

If you go to Preferences > Performance... is "Use Graphics Processor" enabled?

Yes

What operations are lagging? Painting? Certain commands? Clicking on layers?

Summary: visible performance of Photoshop 22.x is very bad when GPU is enabled, disabling GPU or using Photoshop 21.x fixes the issue.

My system is Windows 10 with RTX 2070.

Steps to reproduce:

- open big photo (6000x4000 in my case)

- create about 10 layers - typical photo postprocessing like curves, color balance, selective colors, etc, it doesn't matter what layers are that

- create curves layer under them (so changing this layer requires recalculating everything above)

- try moving curve points

Expected result (Photoshop 21.x or Photoshop 22.x without GPU): curve points move smoothly, image is updated without any issues

Actual result (Photoshop 22.x with GPU enabled): moving points work slow, there is visible stuttering

This is not problem with drivers or any temporary problem with the system, problem persists for about a year or even more, yesterday I reinstalled Windows and tested it again with all new drivers - no change.

Problem has been reported by multiple of people but when I read discussions people usually recommend to update drivers or say "it works for me" and it is not solved. I am reporting it now, because I don't see any progress on that for long time. So it doesn't matter which 22.x and which 21.x versions we are talking about it - the ones from early 2021 behaves same way.
