Photoshop 2023 and saving as jpeg

Photoshop 2023 does not allow direct saving as jpeg. This requires that all previously created actions changing to jpeg be redone. Also, when creating a new action with "save as jpeg" and "close" in it, a window pops up before it will complete saying, save changes. This is confusing and if you check it thinking it means the changes of the action your in for trouble. It is referring to the original file and it will change the original file while keeping it as a psd. This happened to me on an action to downsize to jpeg and downsized 20 originals I had spent hours editing. I now have to do all that editing again from the raw files so I will have the full size psd files I want. When creating the action, that last "save changes" window should not appear when the action is a "save as" and the destination is a new folder.

Sometimes it gives the option and I haven't figured out yet what causes it
not to. That's when I choose the "export as" option in the File drop-down
main menu.

Please post a screenshot of the dialog in Preferences > File Handling.

You can also use File > Save a Copy.

No, the problem is that jpeg doesn't support 16 bit or layers (or alpha channels or transparency).

Side note: with the avalanche of posts about this since v 24 shipped, I'm amazed at how many people haven't updated in a long time. This change happened in v 22.4!

For our company, the update to v24 unchecked the option. We previously had it enabled.

Help! I have to save my pictures in jpeg for my client, as usual, but after my update I can only save them in jpeg 2000. This can be a problem for my client, or not? What can/shall I do???

@OotS  Follow the advice further up this thread and either :

a. Use Save a Copy

or

b. Flatten and ensure that the document fits all teh requirements of teh jpeg format then use Save

or

c. Check Enable Legacy Save As in preferences

Photoshop doesn't change anything by itself. It sounds like you have ACR / Lightroom set to open in 16 bit.

I don't seem to have the option. But anyway - maybe it's good to edit in 16 and covert afterwards.
