Photoshop 2024: Unable to define the pattern after selecting the pattern as done in earlier versions. So many things have changed in the new version. It's frustrating when have deadlines as the simple things are tedious now.

Copy the selection to a new layer.

Right click the layer and chose Duplicate layer.

Use the drop down and select New.

That opens the tile in its own window, and you can define the pattern from there.

I forgot to add that you'll need to Trim the transparent pixels before defining the pattern

Photoshop 25.0.0 on Win, no problem on my side.

Changing to a new program version when one has deadlines looming may not be prudent. 

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
