In Photoshop 2025 with Windows 10, the Eraser key (E) will not not toggle back to the the Brush Tool (B) when pressing the key without letting up. It is still working correctly in the new Beta version. I do not always want the exact same brush stroke that the Tilde (~) gives (which stll works correctly). I use the Eraser Tool set up on my Wacom Pen, but it does not work correctly even when using the mouse by pressing the E key without letting go of the key - it does not return back to the Brush Tool. I am currently doing all my painting in the Beta version as this is so important to me.

Hey, @Sydglenn. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out.
Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document >Upload and attach here.
Try this:
This setting allows you to temporarily switch tools by holding down the shortcut key, which might help with your issue of toggling between the Eraser and Brush tools.
Give it a try and see if it resolves the problem!
Thanks!

Hi Sameer K - sorry for the late response. I lost where my comment was and just found it.
I do have the Spring-loaded Keyboard Shortcuts option enabled in both PS 2025 and PS Beta - the preferences are set up the same and the toggle does still work with Beta. I have the E set up on my Wacom on the Pen so that I top click the front line to get the E for toggling and release to go back to the Brush key. It does toggle with the Mixer Brush or the Smudge Tool either. And when E is pressed manually on the Keyboard, it does not toggle either. Attached my systems info - all the same filters are applied to each PS program also. Hope you can fix this. I prefer to paint in PS 2025 as it is more stable and does not run my older computer system as hard. Thank You....Syd

Believe I solved the problem and it appears to be a Windows issue. For some reason with the PS 2025 update, a file I had created for similar issues in the PS 2015 (and apparently as far back as my CS6) version (with an Intuos3 Wacom attached) was not copied. I think it was copied for most of the previous versions. Therefore, a Notepad file had to be created that only says "UseSystemStylus0" and named PSUserConfig.txt. It was placed inside the Settings Folder. [Installation Drive]:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2025\Adobe Photoshop CC 2025 Settings\ -place file here-. Then restart your computer or you might not see the corrected changes. This worked for me and now the Eraser toggles correctly. By putting this file into this folder, it forces PS to use WinTab. (See this link for an explanation on the Win Tab issue). To turn off the reversion to Win Tab in PS, just delete the file. Hope this helps others with similar brush issues.

I just figured out the Eraser does not work for me if in Preferences -> Cursors the Brush Tip Outline has been changed to Extra Bold. Flip to Bold as before the new choice, and it works fine.
