Photoshop 2025 laggy zoom in/zoom out and brush tool and rectangle tool

Can someone please help me? Photoshop has been like this for a month and I've been doing everything I can to make it run fast.

  • I've tried adjusting the NVIDIA Control Panel settings to get it to run faster.
  • The Photoshop perferences settings
  • I tried disabling Windows AntiSever and closing apps on the task manager.
  • I even tried clearing my computers cache.
  • Ive tried adding Photoshop to the NVIDIA app to see if it can get it to run fast.

Still nothing.

What do I do?

I turned off Use Graphics Processor and it moves fast again however I can't use the Rotation View Tool.

How can I get Photoshop to run fast again?

I found a solution!!

 

I noticed in Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop that you can install old versions of photoshop - and you don't even have to uninstall the newer ones first.  I installed 22.2, and viola!  The GPU based zoom is not broken in that version.  I haven't figured out exactly which version broke GPU based pan/zoom, but it's definitely broken in 26.5 and 26.4.1

 

@patrick_6023To get an older version installed, you launch creative cloud desktop.  Click on "apps" on the left of the window.  Then find photoshop and click the three little dots inside the photoshop square.  You'll get a small popup, where you can choose "other versions".  22.2 works fine.  Something in between 22.2 and 26.5 may work as well.

 

I'll tell Adobe support about it when they call back on Monday.   Hopefully the support rep can get the  ticket escelated to someone who can fix the bug.

 

I'll report back if I figure out exactly what version introduced the bug.

 

 


I'm going to have to eat some crow here.  This was not necessarily a bug in photoshop.  Maybe something that went wrong during a previous update?  I don't know and at this point I'm sure I won't ever find out.

 

I formatted my laptop SSD and reinstalled windows 11 pro and all of my software.  The current release of photoshop (26.5) works as expected after the format. 

 

What a painful experience - I'm glad that's over!

Hello,

I wanted to let you guys know that my laptop had this issue of showing a black screen at the start-up screen, so I had to do a system restore. 

Many of my files were deleted (Nothing to lose, much of my art was already backed up to my cloud storage). And I had to reinstall Photoshop, and now I no longer have the lag issues.

This might not be the best solution, but sometimes you have no choice.

I'm still not quite sure what the cause of its lag came from, whether it was a failed update on the system or software, or a file I installed. I guess I'll never know.

I'm surprised people are still replying to this thread. I'm sure most people are struggling with the exact same thing. I'd be happy too if someone found a solution better than the solution I did.

I'll see this many many times ago, also in my job as Systemadministrator. If there was sporadic crashes, low performace or other issues we reinstall the whole system. It sounds a lot of work (and it is), but it's usually the quickiest way. And in most of the cases the system runs perfect after doing this.

 

The reasons are often in the deeps of the system. Old drivers of libraries that are on the update processes aren't deleted and incompatible with the new software or older configurations that are not changed and so on.

 

That’s why you read here often reinstall the Adobe applications or sometimes also the whole system.  The best is to reinstall a system from time to time with the recent versions of operating system, drivers and applications and not always install only the updates.

It's a bug in the recent versions of photoshop I think, as I have the exact same problem.  Adobe: Please fix  photoshop!

If it were a bug, it would be happening to me too. However, I can't reproduce the problem described.
I think it's more of a specific issue that only occurs with certain device configurations.

 

Is your system up-to-date? Do you have installed all recent updates and patches for the operating system and the device drivers, especially the graphic driver. If you have a NVidia graphic card installed, make sure that you are using the recent Studio version of the driver, not the Game Ready version.

 

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post.

Interesting, I'll try the studio driver.  I was lead to believe (in a document shared by nVidia) that the difference was a slower release cadence in order to provide stability (e.g. today's game ready driver may become the next studio driver in a month or two).  It won't hurt to try, thanks for the suggestion!  I've already reinstalled the Adobe software, and was debating the merits of wiping the drive to reinstall windoze 11.

 

Notes:

Number of launches is low because I removed all of the creative suite apps and reinstalled in an attempt to resolve the problem.  This problem only popped up in March for me.  Prior to that, everything was right as rain.  Also, the unusually high 90% ram for photoshop was an unsuccessful attempt to resolve the problem.  That change had no impact on performance either way.  You will notice I have several GPUs, as I have had for a very long time.  Really, nothing hardware wise has changed.

Do you have uinstalled the Studio Version of NVidia's graphic device driver?

In the system info I see that there's a Intel GPU active. I think this is the CPU internal GPU. Please try to deactivate this GPU in device manager in Windows and check. Sometimes the are conflicts if both GPUs are active.
