Photoshop (22.2) - 3D Import no longer works

For the last few days I've been trying to get Photoshop (version 2.22) to open a new project obj to work on and noticed i can no longer do that and the message i get when trying to import an obj is this: "Could not open "Teeth ONLY - For Photoshop v2.obj" because 3D files require Photoshop version 25.12.0."

This is for all Obj. files , that used to work but no longer open.. PSD files with Obj projects in them still work though. Do you know how i can fix this?

I'd look at resetting preferences or perhaps reinstalling.

That message is a contradiction, since 22.2 was the last version to support 3D at all. After all, that's why it's still available in the CC app.

Thank you for trying to help, I tried you're suggestion but sadly it didn't work. I agree with you I'm not sure why it would bring up this message, I just want to be able to continue on my project but this has made it harder for me until I have a solution..

I reset my preferences , both in photoshop's 22.2 and in the creative cloud, then uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop (v22.2), but the message still pops up when trying to open obj's.

I can't see anything wrong in your system info. However, the error message in your screenshot does not make sense. At the time v22.2 was released, v25 did not exist so no error message from v22 should refer to it. In addition, v25 dropped 3D support.

What are you using to open the file? 3D menu item New 3D layer from file should work with an obj file.

Have you tried other obj files? Do they all give the same message or is it just this one?

I agree with you v22.2 since a week or so ago has not been able to open like it used to. I believe after the new update (beta update) is when I started to get this message for any obj I tried to open. 

I usually would open my obj's with 'file > open' than I click on the obj that i want to open.

Thank you for suggesting to use '3D > New 3D Layer' from file instead that worked for me so I'll just use that instead.

Glad you found a workaround. The message you are seeing is coming from the new Substance 3D Viewer plugin, which explains how that older version of Photoshop even knows anything about a newer version of Ps. The plugin is being installed with all versions of Ps Beta, so it's getting into the mix here.

The intent is for the plugin to intercept the import function and offer to place the obj file into a new smart object, and from there you could use the Substance Viewer 3D application to make certain edits to the 3D file (outside of Photoshop), then pass that back to Ps in a smart layer.

Can you share the OBJ file in question? It would be great to understand why it isn't being processed by the Substance 3D Viewer plugin properly.

I would attach an example below, but it doesnt allow me to. I export a mesh out of blender as obj and open them in photoshop usually.

It's an obj file and was able to be opened in photoshop prior, its fine,  i'll just use the 3d > new 3d layer, since that works still.

I figured it would be the case, I dont use or care for the new substance 3D viewer plugin and dont use it to work so thats why 22.2 is important for me. Will there be a fix for this?
