CC should have this natively without having to install a plugin.

I'm using Mojave on a mid-2012 MBP and installing the telegraphic plug-in on release 21.0.2 works for me. I can now open WEBP files. I haven't tried to save yet.

Why must we still rely on third party plugins to work with WebP?

This should not be marked as solved.  Near as I can tell Adobe has not yet even produced an official response to this need let alone promised or produced a native solution.

Ok, so Adobe just updated Photoshop again and now the Webp Plugin that was working on Monday no longer works. The option is still there to save as Webp, but the file that is saved is empty (no image). Any new solutions. It sure would be awesome if Adobe would support Webp!

Remember the Apple user will not see you your WEBP content unless they install none Apple Software.  As far as I know Google and Apple still have issues. I do not know If its Goolg that  prevent Apple from supporting WEBP or if its Apple choice not to support WEBP.

There is a rumor that Safari 14 will have WEBP support  perhaps Apple is caving in.

The most ridiculous things about this is that Google seem to be giving the impression of penalising websites that are still using Jpeg / PNG, and forcing people to using WebP saying the other two are slowing sites down with their latest SEO kick in Analytics/Google Console of the techno-babble with "CLS" (Cumulative Layout Shift).

Despite having all images optimised properly and quick-loading with Photoshop Save For Web all these years; we'll now have to go through all our sites again and convert to WebP, which only really benefits Chrome in the end.|

All about Google keeping control rather than any benefit to the user in the real (Western) world.

Until Adobe and Google agree on web standards, nothing is going to change here any time soon.

Agree that this is frustrating. I've had the most / quickest luck copying pasting the URL from Chrome into Safari. The image should then download and save as a jpg. More or less, using Safari's built-in functionality as my converter...

The latest update for Photoshop 2021 seems to have knocked out the ability to use either of the three plugins suggested.

I just downloaded and installed the Windows x64 plugin for https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/docs/webpshop and it worked.  It looks like Photoshop 2021 loads the Presets from 2020 but not the Plugins. So if you had it working with 2020 then you may need to copy the Plugin over to 2021.

additionally, if you are installing with PS CC 2021 you have to adjust the sudo command on mac that is provided by the developer from

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2020/Plug-ins/WebPShop.plugin"

to

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2021/Plug-ins/WebPShop.plugin"

i did an install right now on osx 10.15.7 and PS CC 2021 - working fine here.

PS: really ridiculous that we have to install webp support MANUALLY in 2021 for a ridicoulously overpriced app.

And even more rediculous to have to run WEBP images through freaking MS Paint to be able to use them is even more rediculous.

Note: Save as JPG, open in and save as JPG again in Paint then carry on.

Have you looked at the Photography plan? The one with Phtoshop and Lightroom?  It's cheaper than just Photoshop if you don't care about cloud storage (20gb vs. 100gb).

Many thanks for the suggestion Argel1200. This isn't about the money  - it is about the "top" photo editing software not handling an ever more popular web photo format. Then to have the heavily mocked MS Paint come to the rescue is irony.

Heads-up: So it looks like WordPress is about to add native support for WebP....

In the #core dev chat last week, Mike Schroder said:

I think things are getting pretty close for an initial commit for WebP support, so any testing and feedback on it, and the related filter for output, would be appreciated:
#35725 and the filter in #52867

This should drive further interest and need for WebP.  I've been using the free WebPShop plugin and it's decent, but of course it would be great to have native Photoshop support.
